SISTERHOOD WORLD CUP UNDER 18 PRELIMINARIES COME TO A CLOSE

Sisterhood world cup 2010 2nd and 3rd October Preliminaries

It is a surprise that new comers have come of age in the ever
continuing and effervescent sisterhood world cup 2010 that is
sponsored by Kenya’s Premier Sports Academy- The Sadili Oval Sports
Academy. The under 18 leg has taken shape owing to the huge numbers
present and the major upsets recorded. When Spurgeons and Zelyn took
to the pitch, Spurgeons donning Manchester United jerseys while Zelyn
used ordinary white t-shirts, the result in everybody’s mind was an
overwhelming score in favour of Spurgeons. Surprisingly, Zelyn struck
home just one goal that would thereafter see them through to the
quarter finals. Hosts Sadili Sisters too were just about to face an
upset when they drew 1-1 with Bible Baptist in a clash that clearly
showed that soccer is just but a game where a bet is as good as a
loss. Challengers continued their spirited form by getting into the
quarter finals with ease amassing 13 points in total. Celtic who are
currently the top girls team in the Nairobi Girls Soccer League fired
salvos that would see them emerge from pool A with maximum points- 15,
the most you can get at the pool stages. Defending Champions Future
Talent were very lucky to book their quarterfinals slot after a
superior goal advantage over new comers Bible Baptist. Tournament
beauties Shooting Stars and Girls soccer were also present perhaps to
please their fans but Girls soccer stumbled out of the tournament
letting Shooting stars to continue with the race for glory alongside
challengers.

Life skills teaching
In addition to the soccer action, the girls received Life skills
teaching from QFM girls’ talk show presenter and Liverpool Vct
officer. It is important to note that HIV/AIDS and rape are among the
cases affecting a huge number of girls living in the slum. ´A lot of
progress has been reported ever since the sisterhood world cup was
started´, these are the words of Gerishom Ngaywa the Pumwani and
Future Talent Coach. ´A lot of my girls have learnt to embrace soccer
and shun the evils and vices in society. It is indeed challenging to
say that some of the girls in my team opened up to me and told me all
the myths they had been told in regard to teenage sex and how they
believe the tournament made them demystify the myths. It is indeed a
worthy tournament.
