I Love Football Let Me Play

“TUPE NAFASI”
In June, 160 teenage Kenyan girls from around Nairobi, will take part in a World Cup football tournament, to get the public to focus on the lack of adequate safety and fairness for girls in sport, and fight for a girl-led Code of Conduct against abuse, seeking Government support. If we do not progress on this next step, we will have left many girls exposed to violence, early pregnancies and HIV-AIDS infection. We must act now. Let’s do it through football!

“I love football…let me play”
Help give Kenyan Girls a real chance to play football safely by voting for “The Code” for people working with girls nationally. Vote “yes” for

THE CODE ON ABUSE
1.     When I Report That I have Been Abused: Please say you believe me, do not doubt me.
2.     Please do not make promises that you cannot keep
3.     Please tell me that I am not to blame, it was not my fault
4.     Please do not get shocked and disgusted, help me
5.     Please do not fight my offender, help me find justice
6.     Please be cautious about whom you hire as my coach or teacher
7.     Please come sometimes to watch me play or visit my school and see my progress.
8.     Please warn my teacher not to touch me every time he passes my desk
9.     Please do not send me alone to do your errands early morning or evening
10.  Please remember that man who comes to visit you could also be coming to watch me and my sister(s). We need your interest and protection.
11.  Please ask yourself why I do not like school anymore, and why many girls in my team are pregnant or have babies.
12.  Please ask yourself why so many girls attend STD Clinics and VCT: its not a clubhouse
13.  I want selections to the team to be free and fair. I want male coaches who are impregnating girls or giving them STDs and women who are helping to be exposed.
14.  I want our story to be told because many girls are pregnant, have sex unwillingly, have no rights in their teams, and are suffering from AIDS and HIV because they live in the slums. I want everyone to know that the highest amount of abuse, verbally, physically and sexually takes place on the pitch.
15.  I want the government to investigate this, and find solutions. I want 2012 to be the year of asking for fair and equitable space for girls in the country...”TUPE NAFASI”
