27 MARCH 2011: SISTERHOOD WORLD CUP FINALISTS CURTAIN RAISE FOR INTERNATIONAL MATCH!

Mammoth Crowd At Nyayo Stadium Where Girls Curtain-Raised For Palmeiras-Gor Mahia Match.

On Sunday 27 March 2011, the Embassy of Brazil invited the girls participate in an exhibition match between Brazilian top team, Palmeiras FC, and Kenya’s 2010 national league finalist, Gor Mahia FC, at the Nyayo National Stadium. This was a 30 minute match that was a curtain-raiser for the main game, and provided us with the opportunity to showcase our girls playing football at a high standard, as well as giving the message about providing girls with the opportunity to get an education and play sport without undue harassment both physically and verbally. The girls were cheered on by an enthusiastic crowd of Gor Mahia Fans, estimated to be about 11,000 strong, which encouraged them to display good quality football.  The match was televised to about 30 million Kenyans, through Nation, Citizen, KTN, K24 and KISS TV. The activity ended with awards for Sadili Queens (winner) and God’s Last Appeal (Runner-up) and Sunderland (2nd runnerup).
